Taking a Pause Before We Talk About Grooming
“Self-care is not self-indulgence; it is self-preservation.”
— Audre Lorde
I’ve decided to take this weekend off from posting and give myself a little time to rest as an early birthday present to myself. It has been an extremely busy few weeks!
Instead of rushing through an article just to stay on schedule, I’m choosing to slow down and take a much-needed break. Especially considering the subject we will be discussing next, I do not want to rush it. Grooming is an important topic related to abuse, manipulation, and exploitation, and it deserves the time and care necessary to discuss it properly.
Last week, we discussed gaslighting, manipulation, and emotional abuse. Next Sunday, I would like to continue that conversation by taking a closer look at grooming—how trust can slowly be used to create control, secrecy, confusion, and dependence. I will also explain why people may stay in abusive situations longer than others believe they should, and why they may not recognize the abuse or tell someone what is happening.

In the meantime, if you would like to catch up on any older articles, you can find them at detourfromhell.org/blog. Since starting the blog, we have discussed grief and trauma, triggers, PTSD, anxiety and ADHD, addiction and recovery, brain chemistry and stress, setting boundaries, owning your truth, emotional abuse, gaslighting, manipulation, and much more.
Thank you for understanding and for continuing to support Detour From Hell. Remember, sometimes healing and growth mean recognizing when it is time to pause. Have a great week! Talk soon!
